The La Cruz Sunday Market (officially called the Mercado Huanacaxtle) opens each year in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on the first Sunday in November from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm every year since their inception in 2010. The location at the La Cruz Marina creates a special ambiance for Banderas Bay seaside shopping. Started at the location of the La Cruz town plaza, the market quickly outgrew that venue, and moved to the new location at the La Cruz Marina in its first year of development.

The rent from the Mercado Huanacaxtle goes towards the new orphanage in Valle de Banderas, as well as education for Mexican nationals. The founders employing 15 persons, and paying the band, its a win win situation all the way around for the La Cruz community.

The La Cruz Sunday Market now covers the entire area from La Cruz Mercado (Fish Market), out along the Marina walk way and down and around to the jetty. More vendors attend and sell their wares each year, coming from all over the state of Jalisco and Nayarit. Some as far as Guadalajara as well as Tepic!

The organizers are selective as to which vendors can join the market, preventing the reselling of products and produce. The main guideline is having an original production of goods. There is a waiting line to get into the La Cruz Sunday Market now, and many take alternate turns selling there.

Its fun to walk, eat, and shop at the market while listening to the live music being played by the waters edge. Many diverse local and visiting musicians and bands come to play every Sunday. It brings an energy of happiness and joy to the market place. Give them a “tip” as you pass by!

So, what is selling at this market? One of the largest Markets on the Riviera Nayarit, there are currently over 170 exhibitors.
