AVENUE Q

AVENUE Q is a delightful, laugh-out-loud American musical that was performed on Broadway from 2003 to 2009. Audiences everywhere have been captivated by its fresh and funny story, and it won the prestigious 2004 “Triple Crown” for Tony Awards…. BEST MUSIC, BEST SCORE and BEST BOOK!
 
The story of AVENUE Q takes place in New York City and the street is Avenue Q, the only address you can afford when you’re fresh out of college, out of a job, or just trying to find your purpose in life. It is a coming-of-age parable that satirizes the issues and anxieties of entering adulthood.
 
Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score (not to mention the use of full-size puppets that are animated by unconcealed human puppeteers), Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere! Although the show addresses humorous adult issues (and is not recommended for children), it is very similar to a beloved children's show; a place where puppets are friends. It is directed by Act II Entertainment´s Musical Director, Alfonso Lopez, and features a wonderful, international cast!
 
Simply put, this show is the perfect choice for those of us who may be wondering how the hell we got to this point in our lives and constantly questioning what our purpose is.  But for now, you can just sit back, enjoy, belly-laugh, and rejoice at the marvel of this modern-day musical!

AVENUE Q opens on November 12 with a huge opening night party at 6:00 pm.

AVENUE Q will take the Main Stage at 7:00 pm for performances on November 12, 16, 17, 19, 23, 24, 26, 30 and December 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 21, 22.
 
“PANSY” starring DAISY BUCKET
 
A staple of the Kansas City scene, which says something or nothing at all, Daisy Bucket (pronounced, of course, 'bouquet') brings her new one-woman show to ACT II's Red Room! How does one fall into a career of sequins and fabulousness? All is revealed in "Pansy", the stories and songs that have shaped the blonde bombshell femme mimic of the midwest! This 90-minute cabaret is a rollercoaster of high-energy songs from show tunes to rock and blues -all gloriously sung live by Daisy herself, who can also be seen in disguise as Trampolina of The Kinsey Sicks!
 
Most recently, Daisy brought the house down emceeing the Holiday Hullaballoo concert at the GALA Festival in Denver showcasing gay men's choruses nationwide and also starred as Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horitwitz in "Cluelessness", which was recognized as one of the Best Local Plays in Kansas City this year by The Pitch. Her tireless fundraising efforts for Kansas City HIV/AIDS organizations has raised well over $100,000.

“I JUST CAN’T COPA CABANA!” starring CARLY OZARD

Act II welcomes back the vivacious, talented, Broadway diva, Carly Ozard, with an all-new show this year! Last season, Carly impressed audiences in Puerto Vallarta with her powerful voice, quickly becoming a local favorite with her “Midler on the Roof” show. This year’s brand-new show, “I Just Can´t Copa Cabana,” is inspired by songs originated by Annie Lennox, Aretha Franklin, John Lennon, Gavin DeGraw, Carole King and many more! Special guest stars from New York City and San Francisco join Carly on this voyage as she ponders how real world issues can be experienced through song.
 
Carly has been singing in Musical Theatre and Cabaret shows since 2005. She was the WINNER of The San Francisco Cabaret Competition of 2009, and has continued to create a variety of custom-designed shows including “Shift Happens” “Somebody to Love: My Musical Tribute to Freddie Mercury” and “Midler on the Roof!” Carly has performed her shows from NYC to San Francisco as a Headline powerhouse, and Act II is so proud to have Carly return for the 2016 – 2017 season!

THE VOICE OF VALLARTA, SEASON 4

CALLBACK AUDITIONS will be open to the public on Sunday, November 6 at 8:00 pm at the Main Stage of Act II STAGES. Tickets are available 50 pesos, or 150 pesos including one drink.

The Voice of Vallarta will be held every Sunday evening, from November 27 through April 9. (*Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are dark.)  A Voice of Vallarta Season Pass is now available online at Act II. This discounted pass will allow you to attend all auditions, V.I.P seats in the first three rows, one cocktail per show, and seats for the big closing night. Check it out! “ELECTILE DYSFUNTION” featuring THE KINSEY SICKS
 
We are so thrilled to welcome back the world-acclaimed “beautyshop” quartet, THE KINSEY SICKS! and their very timely original show, “ELECTILE DYSFUNCTION.”  In this hilarious show, the Kinsey Sicks (Rachel, Trampolina, Trixie and Winnie) campaign to become the first Dragapella® Beautyshop Quartet to be elected President of the United States on the Republican ticket.  They plan to TAKE BACK AMERICA by out-pandering, out-conspiracy theorizing, and out-outlandishing our current Presidential candidates through their sharp-witted original songs and biting parodies.  Are you still an undecided voter? With five shows leading right up to the election, we strongly advise that you DON’T VOTE until you have seen all sides!

“BOMBSHELL” starring TIPSY ROSE LEE

We are thrilled to welcome Seattle star, Tipsy Rose Lee, and her show, “BOMBSHELL,” to Act II Entertainment!  Tipsy Rose Lee is an outlandish, unconventional and HILARIOUS performer who will take you on a journey deep into the private life of the incomparable Marilyn Monroe!  Both audiences and critics LOVE the hilarious plot and the great songs that tell the “provocative and private side” of Marilyn’s life. If you’re looking for lots of laughs, this is definitely the show for you!
 
Tipsy Rose Lee is the popular co-host of Seattle’s popular “Mimosas with Mama” Cabaret show, as well as the show's choreographer and creative developer. “Mimosas with Mama” has won the title of “BEST THEATER GROUP” in KING 5 NEWS’s “Best of Western Washington” category for the past two years. Tipsy has dazzled audiences in cities such as Toronto, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York with her roles as Tracy Turnblad in “Hairspray”, Galinda in “Wicked”, and Jane Fonda in “9 to 5-ish,’’ as well as a role in Act II’s performance of “Little House of Horrors” several years ago. We can’t wait to welcome her back to Act II Entertainment for our 2016-2017 season!

“SWEET LIKE CANDY” a Jazz & Blues tribute featuring MAMA TITS
 
MAMA TITS definitely left a great impression in Vallarta after a very successful run last year with her fabulous show, Mayhem with Mama!  We are very excited that she is returning to Puerto Vallarta this year with her solo show, “SWEET LIKE CANDY.”  An amazing performer, Mama Tits always “thinks out of the box” to come up with outrageous new twists to tell her favorite stories!  Each section of her show is a whirlwind of song and dance and quick-change magic… guaranteed to make you laugh uncontrollably and beg for more!!   Mama Tits has created this tribute to Jazz and Blues exclusively for the Puerto Vallarta audience!
 
Mama Tits, Creator of “Mayhem with Mama” and “Mimosas with Mama” is a Seattle drag icon and has been awarded “Best Theater Group” in 2014 and 2015 by Seattle’s King 5 Television Queen’s Best of Western Washington viewer poll. “Mimosas with Mama” has been a notorious destination in the Seattle scene for over three and a half years, changing the way Seattle enjoys cabaret entertainment!

PAUL FRACASSI returns to Puerto Vallarta once again after a record-breaking season last winter! Paul and his very popular shows, WALK LIKE A MAN and LEGENDS, sold more tickets than any other performer in Vallarta history! Now, Paul plans on wowing Puerto Vallarta once again by singing songs from the greatest 20TH CENTURY CROONERS, including Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin Bobby Darin, Smokey Robinson, Michael Buble, Tony Williams of The Platters, Andy Williams, Harry Connick Jr, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Stevie Wonder, Louis Prima, Al Martino, Mel Torme, Barry Manilow, and more. STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW is a Musical Revue by David Shire and Richard Maltby Jr. David Shire has composed film scores, such as All the President's Men and Farewell My Lovely. Richard Maltby Jr. wrote the lyrics to Miss Saigon, and together with David, they have written the musicals, "Baby," "Closer than Ever," and "Big."

“BLAME IT ALL ON MEXICO” starring BRITTANY KINGERY

Act II Entertainment is excited to welcome back the one-and-only, chart-topping, award-winning, Darling of Vallarta, Brittany Kingery, this season! Every Monday evening, Brittany will bring her sweet, soaring voice and all-live band, appearing as a HEADLINE singer on the Red Room Stage. Originally from Washington state, now residing in Vallarta, her critically-acclaimed original and cover songs have been inspired by her experiences and life here in Mexico! She has also earned quite a reputation with huge accolades from her many fans of Troprock and Acoustic music.

SONICO starring ALFREDO MENDOZA & CRISTINA MARISCAL

Act II Entertainment is excited to welcome back to the Red Room SONICO, starring Vallarta locals and super stars, Alfredo Mendoza and Cristina Mariscal! Last season, Puerto Vallarta was knocked to its feet when a local band, well known from their performances in many local high-end hotels and resorts, hit the Red Room stage with a blast of energy and talent! With TWO SOLD-OUT SHOWS, the word on everyone's tongue was to "BRING THEM BACK!"

WALK LIKE A MAN starring PAUL FRACASSI

"WALK LIKE A MAN," starring PAUL FRACCASSI, is the number-one selling show in Puerto Vallarta! In fact, last year, Paul sold out 24 of his 25 shows (damn Super Bowl)! We are so excited to announce that "WALK LIKE A MAN" returns to The Red Room as a HEADLINE ACT for the 2016-2017 season!

Paul Fracassi, the "Jersey Kid" from Toronto, Canada, managed to create a big fuss up in Canada as a finalist in "Canadian Idol." Shortly thereafter, he created a "big fuss" in Puerto Vallarta, too, as we fell in love with this wonderful, new singing sensation in his show "WALK LIKE A MAN."

CANADIAN SUPERSTAR JEFFERY STRAKER

We are very excited to welcome Jeffery Straker, SINGER-SONGWRITER-PIANIST, from Saskatchewan, Canada, to Act II! As he sings along to his beautiful piano playing, Jeffery weaves stories between his songs, drawing the audience into an unforgettable, intimate experience. Jeffery's distinctive voice, with its surprising range and signature high notes, blends folk and pop, sounding like a mixture of Elton John, Sarah Slean & Billy Joel (with a dash of Harry Chapin). His tour stops range from intimate house concerts to club and theatre shows and include recent sold-out concerts with Canadian symphony orchestras in Saskatoon, Regina and Sudbury. The review following his orchestral debut read: "Straker was simply spectacular…clearly one of the province's best cultural exports."

SIMON & GIRLFUNKEL starring BRITTANY KINGERY and STOLIE

New "old friends," Brittany Kingery and Stolie, unite their silky vocals in an acoustic show paying tribute to the most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960's, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. These two young chicks will showcase an eclectic mix of memorable chart-toppers, tunes moving through folk, pop, doo-wop, Latin rhythms and gospel flavors, and highlighting those signature "choirboy" harmonies.

SALTY PAW JAZZ ORCHESTRA

As a big supporter of the arts in Puerto Vallarta, on Sunday, November 20, at 8:00 pm, Act II is excited to present a performance by the "Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra!" Led by Victor Kris, the “Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra” started as a youth-based advanced workshop where students learned how to express themselves artistically through improvisation. The program has expanded to include jazz history, theory, and ensemble, and is now open to all musicians in the city who play an instrument that would like to learn more about jazz.
