Delighted Tobehere, New York's "Best In Drag" is gracing our stage with her vast humor and message of standing tall and being yourself no matter what people say. From the first musical line, one realizes that we have a major full-blown talent here. Her voice is full, rich, deep at times, but always exactly on target. "Live in your moment. Live your best life", she exclaimed straight from her immense heart. Her boisterous personality and voluminous humor are mixed with profound and thoughtful meanings. She is an intense star who relates woven stories of her life and how she strove forward against all adversity. What a way to start a 'Delightful' evening than with "Luck [Tuck] Be a Lady".
Her music choices reflect this life attitude and approach, applicable to everyone within earshot. She is a Charlotte, SC southern belle who now lives in New York City thrilling audiences as a strong vocalist, comedian, entertainer and celebrity impersonator. She said her birth state is not the highest in education, ranking number 49 - "Thank God for Mississippi!" All people have struggles with which they must contend to survive and flourish. She has done just that. At 6'4" and a drag queen, she has faced obstacles, but strove through them in victory. "Walking in Memphis" described a dreamlike meeting of Elvis. She grasp that Mark Cohn song and delivered it to the listeners, even tossing in a bit of Cher. Delighted sings of being in the moment with thunderous low notes then soaring to the ceiling. She states several times that she is "Delighted Tobehere" and we were, too.
She launched into a series of celebrity images with "What a Wonderful World" from Louis Armstrong to Judy Garland to Elvis. A proud staunch rendition of "Friends in Low Places" followed, continuing the theme of being oneself and proud of yourself. Do not accept NO. Push on in the direction you desire, what suits your being. She is simply astounding, with one large accomplishment appearing on "America's Got Talent" performing Josh Turner's "Your Man". It was a thrilling event and brought her nationwide fame.
Our star show lady returned for Act II at Act II [Danny said it first]. An appropriate "Sweet Transvestite" returned to the night's theme and she blasted the lyrics, both funny and serious. She is not only an entertainer and singer, she is an actress. Her ad-libs add individuality to each show making one night different from the next. The crowd is often involved in her clever lines, working off the guests, addressing some questions and inducing laughter to resound through the room. Her original interpretation of "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Miserables" was impressively beautiful. "Your Song" and "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", the great Elton John compositions, expressed lyrics fit precisely for the personal message tonight.
Summing up the show's theme, in honor of her adopted hometown, "New York, New York" followed, but the presentation was not the usual one which has become so commonplace, but a stirring tremendous delivery with words of self-reliance. During intermission, Danny asked Delighted Tobehere to be here next season since all present were so impressed with her abilities. But there is still time to see her now. Highly recommended.
