Hotel Mousai is thrilled to announce that its very own mixologist, the extremely talented Alejandro Garcia, was awarded first place at this year’s mixology competition held in Puerto Vallarta.
Taking place at the Hotel Meliá Vallarta, this year brought the 10th edition of the annual bartender’s contest, which each year brings together the region’s most sensational bartenders to compete for the number one spot. The competition was held over a two day period, during which time each mixologist had a chance to shine while striving to take the top prize. Fortunately for guests of Hotel Mousai, they can enjoy all of the delicious cocktails handcrafted by first place winner Alejandro Garcia during their stay at the glorious adults-only getaway.
There were a record number of participants in this year’s competition, beginning with 55 participants who arrived with their sights set on winning it all. Fifteen competitors were eliminated in the first round, leaving 40 remaining participants to demonstrate their tremendous mixology skills to the judges and other spectators. This two day event gave competitors several opportunities to display their abilities, from preparing classic cocktails with a twist to crafting innovative signature drinks of their own.
The competition was narrowed down even further for the final round, with participants who hail from some of the most celebrated hotels and bars in the Puerto Vallarta area. However, there could only be one winner, and his remarkable expertise in the art of mixology earned Hotel Mousai’s Alejandro Garcia the first place prize. The judges were blown away by his fresh and masterful approach to crafting cocktails, awarding him the coveted top honor.
The Mixology Event
The days leading up to the competition offered workshops given by some of the industry’s most celebrated stars. Topics included health-inspired cocktails, the history and evolution of the martini, classic Cuban cocktails, new uses for bourbon, and an exploration of whether the growing conditions of agave truly affect the quality and taste of the tequila it produces. These talks and workshops offered each mixologist a wealth of knowledge presented in a fun yet informative environment that was meant to inspire creativity and originality. Some of the event’s guest speakers also served as judges for the competition that followed.
