Pee Wee Surfing League Returns to the Riviera Nayarit

This event, presented by Ramon Shapes, Sunset Bungalows, and Los Rudos SurfShop, seeks future surfing stars; dates run from June through October 2018.

The Pee Wee Surfing League is back with six tournaments to be held in three of the Riviera Nayarit’s beaches. They will take place from June 23 through October 14, 2018 and are a springboard for future surfing champions from the region.

The league is presented by Ramos Shapes, Sunset Bungalows, and Los Rudos SurfShop following the competition formats established by the World Championship Tour Top 33 from the World Surf League (WSL), the International Surfing Association (ISA), and the Nayarit State Surfing Association (ASENAY), with the support of the local surfing clubs from the different towns.

The first competition will happen in Sayulita on June 23-24 and will be the state of Nayarit’s qualifying kids’ and teens’ event for the national competitions. It’s open to kids and teens between the ages of 8 and 18 who will participate over the next five months in different phases of the circuit to classify for the grand finale on October 14th.

Upcoming dates: August 4-5, Sayulita; August 26, San Blas; September 8-9, San Pancho; September 22-23, San Blas; October 13-14, San Pancho.

Boy/girl categories: 18 and under; 16 and under; 14 and under; 12 and under; 10 and under; 8 and under. Category winners within each heat will receive a prize.

League director Rogelio Ramos, said the objective of the competition is to help young talent become top athletes.

“We also want them to have fun and enjoy the competition, to be motivated to learn and compete from the time they’re very young, so that in upcoming generations we might see a Mexican at the World Surf League’s World Tour.”

He mentioned the current world champion is Mexican; which is it’s possible for one of these kids to represent of our country and maybe even win a medal. Click for more details

The facts: For the first time in history surfing will be part of an Olympic competition during the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020, participating with men’s and women’s shortboard competitions. This, according to an agreement reached in Rio de Janeiro during the 129th session of the International Olympic Committee in an attempt to attract a wider - and younger - public.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB), with the backing of the Government of the State of Nayarit via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur), are pleased to support this type of events in which the love for sports is fostered in the new generations and young surfers are encouraged to train and develop into top athletes.

Liga Pee Wee de Surfing Regresa a la Riviera Nayarit

Con seis torneos a realizarse en tres playas del destino, regresa a la Riviera Nayarit la Liga Pee Wee de Surfing 2018 que del 23 de junio al 14 de octubre impulsará a las futuras estrellas del surf en la región.

La liga es presentada por Ramos Shapes, Sunset Bungalows y Los Rudos SurfShop, bajo los formatos de competencia establecidos por el World Championship Tour Top 33 de la World Surf League (WSL), la ISA (International Surfing Association) y la Asociación de Surfing en el Estado de Nayarit (ASENAY), con el apoyo de los clubes locales de surf de las diferentes sedes.

La primera fecha será este 23 y 24 de junio en Sayulita, con el añadido de que será selectivo estatal infantil y juvenil de Nayarit para competencias nacionales. Podrán competir niños y jóvenes de entre 8 y 18 años de edad que durante cinco meses participarán en diferentes fases del circuito para clasificar a la gran final el 14 de octubre.

Las siguientes fechas serán: 4 y 5 de agosto en Sayulita; 26 de agosto en San Blas; 8 y 9 de septiembre en San Pancho; 22 y 23 de septiembre en San Blas y 13 y 14 de octubre en San Pancho.

Categorías niño /niña: 18 y menores; 16 y menores; 14 y menores; 12 y menores; 10 y menores; 8 y menores. En cada heat se premia a los mejores en sus categorías.

Rogelio Ramos, director de la liga, menciona que el objetivo de la competencia es apoyar a los pequeños talentos para convertirse en atletas de primer nivel.

“Queremos que además de que se diviertan y se la pasen bien en la competencia, se motiven a aprender y a competir desde pequeños para que en las próximas generaciones podamos ver quizás a algún mexicano en el Tour Mundial de la World Surf League”.

Recordó que el actual campeón del mundo es mexicano; por lo que, quizá uno de estos niños pueda convertirse en el próximo representante de nuestro país y hasta pueda conseguir una medalla. Más detalles

El dato: A partir de los Juegos Olímpicos Japón 2020, el surf estará por primera vez en la historia y se disputará en las categorías de tabla corta ('shortboard') femenina y masculina, según el acuerdo tomado en Río de Janeiro en la 129ª sesión del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), en un intento de atraer un público más joven y amplio.

La Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones de Riviera Nayarit (OVC) y la Asociación de Hoteles y Moteles de Bahía de Banderas, con el apoyo del Gobierno del Estado de Nayarit a través del Fideicomiso de Promoción Turística (Fiprotur) se complace en respaldar este tipo de eventos en los que se fomenta en las nuevas generaciones el amor por el deporte y se apoya a los jóvenes surfistas en su formación y crecimiento como atletas de primer nivel.
