Playa Platanitos, a coastal village in the Riviera Nayarit, is preparing for its signature event: the VI Sea Turtle Festival 2018, which strives to promote environmental awareness and the conservation of these chelonians.
The festival, organized by Playa Platanitos Ecológico, will take place on July 21-22, coinciding with the sea turtle hatchling liberation season and summer vacation. It will be a great weekend of sports, cultural, and artistic activities for visitors.
This year the organizers have prepared a very complete program with activities for the entire family. The inauguration is on Saturday, July 21st at 5:30 p.m. with a ceremony attended by the local tourism, state, and municipal authorities, as well as special guests, to be followed by a cultural and artistic forum at 6 p.m. On Saturday the festival will continue with the traditional beauty pageant to pick the new queen, concluding with a display of fireworks and a dance to the beat of a live banda group.
The sports activities will begin early on Sunday the 22nd: A Shore Fishing Tournament at 6 a.m., an eco-tour from Playa Platanitos to Punta Custodio at 11 a.m., and a swimming competition at noon sharp.
The program also includes an Entrepreneur Expo-Fair and other activities such as a mechanical bull, a greased pole, a cultural forum, and the closing ceremonies with prizes handed out to the winners of the competitions at 6:30 p.m. Another dance with a live band starts up at 8 p.m. All events are free.
The organizers of the event have expressed on numerous occasions that the community of Playa Platanitos is more than just a “sun and sand” destination and strives to be a sustainable destination where the respect for nature is key.
Playa Platanitos is a community of less than 100 inhabitants, the majority of whom are dedicated to commerce, fishing, and sustainable tourism.
This fishing village is located about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from Las Varas in the municipality of Compostela.

VI Festival de la Tortuga Marina 2018 en Playa Platanitos
Playa Platanitos, pueblo costero de la Riviera Nayarit, se prepara para su evento insignia: el VI Festival de la Tortuga Marina 2018, el cual tiene como principales objetivos promover el cuidado del medio ambiente y la preservación del quelonio.
El festival, organizado por Playa Platanitos Ecológico A.C. se realizará los días 21 y 22 de julio y coincide con el inicio de la temporada de liberación de tortugas marinas, además de la temporada vacacional de verano, por lo que el visitante tiene una oferta muy variada de actividades deportivas, culturales y artísticas.
Los organizadores han preparado este año un programa muy completo, con actividades para toda la familia. La inauguración es el sábado 21 de julio a las 5:30 p.m. con un acto en el que estarán presentes autoridades de turismo, estatales y municipales, así como invitados especiales, para dar paso a un foro cultural y artístico a las 6:00 p.m. El sábado continuará con el tradicional certamen de belleza para elegir a la reina del festival y concluirá con un espectáculo de juegos pirotécnicos y el baile popular con banda en vivo.
El domingo 22 comenzarán desde muy temprano las acciones deportivas: Torneo de Pesca de Orilla a las 6:00 a.m., Ruta Ciclista “Vuelta a Platanitos” a las 7:00 a.m., recorrido ecológico de Playa Platanitos a Punta Custodio a las 11:00 a.m., y una competencia de natación en punto de las 12:00 p.m.
El programa incluye también una Feria-Expo Emprendedor, y otras actividades como una competencia en toro mecánico, palo encebado, un foro cultural y el cierre del festival, con la entrega de premios a los ganadores de todas las competencias en punto de las 6:30 p.m., así como el baile con banda en vivo a partir de las 8:00 p.m. Todos los eventos son gratuitos.
Más allá de ser un destino de “sol y playa”, la comunidad de Playa Platanitos pretende ser un destino sustentable, un lugar en el que se privilegie el respeto por la naturaleza, han expresado en diversas ocasiones los organizadores.
Playa Platanitos es una comunidad con menos de 100 habitantes, dedicados mayormente al comercio, la pesca y el turismo sustentable.
Este pueblo costero se localiza aproximadamente a 25 kilómetros del poblado de Las Varas, en el municipio de Compostela.
