The Farmer's Markets are Back in the Riviera Nayarit

The 2020-21 season is starting and most of the markets opened the first week of November with all the safety measures in place to prevent the possible spread of Covid-19.

Shopping will be quite the experience from November through April thanks to the traditional markets in the coastal towns of the Riviera Nayarit, where locals offer the best organic and artisanal products of the season.

Also known as “farmer’s markets,” they will follow the strict protocols required by the new normal and are ready to receive the first wave of winter tourists from the United States and Canada.

These farmer’s markets are a blend of the very Mexican tianguis markets and their North American counterparts and are a great option for buying organic food and meeting regional producers and artisans. It’s also a fun way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning or an afternoon in the company of family and friends.

It’s important to note that in order to reopen the markets, every protective measure was put in place so visitors can shop safely. Not all of them are re-opening, however; some have decided to wait for next season once conditions have improved.

Below please find a list of those that have already confirmed an opening date:

La Cruz Market

This artisanal market — a pioneer in the region—has announced its 11th season starting on November 1st with a new location next to the amphitheater inside the Marina Riviera Nayarit. Also known as the Tianguis Huanacaxtle, it’s an excellent sport to spend some time between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors will find an ample variety of stands to browse through with all sorts of handmade products, organic fruits and vegetables, cheese, sausages, traditional clothing, and more.

Bucerias - Forever Spring Farmer's Market

Wednesday, November 11, 2020 marked the re-opening of the Bucerias farmer's market at La Comer parking lot. Great vendors, live music and all that La Comer has to offer.

Despite best efforts to secure and clear a piece of land in the Golden Zone, the challenge has proven to be too much for now, and we are grateful to the management of la Comer who have offered us a home once again. Our apologies to those who were anticipating a venue closer to "home".

C19 rules and regs are in place for the safety of vendors and visitors alike, as well as the Comer supermarket protocols put in place in March 2020. The AC of Colonos de Bucerias Zona Dorada is the new administrator of our highly popular Foreverspring Farmer's Market and we are grateful to all the team responsible for making the market happen this new season under such challenging circumstances.

Please enjoy and patronize your local businesses as you have done for the past 10+ years. It has been tough for everyone, everywhere.

Happy new season and the best of health to you all.

Tianguis Lo de Marcos

The organizers of the Tianguis Lo de Marcos have chosen to suspend all their activities this season due to the health risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. “The Sars-Covid-19 virus has been devastating for tourism and artists throughout Mexico. Our hearts are saddened by the thought that our beloved artisans — many of whom have been with us since the first year we opened the Tianguis (7 years ago) — will not have a place to go this year. We hope to meet again for the 2021-2022 season,” said the organizers.

The opening dates for the traditional markets in San Pancho, La Peñita de Jaltemba, Rincón de Guayabitos, and Chacala are also still pending.
Remember, Mexico’s Pacific Treasure will be here when you can travel again.

We’re ready!

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) work together to promote the region with the support of the Government of the State of Nayarit through its Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur). The cultural  tourism product offer is an invaluable asset for these promotional efforts.
