The Riviera Nayarit Launches Water Conservation Campaign Norma Hernandez - CVB Riviera Nayarit

The initiative, created in response to World Water Day, seeks to raise awareness among the general population about the responsible consumption of this vital liquid.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has launched the “Water Matters in the Riviera Nayarit” campaign in an effort to raise awareness among tourists and locals about the importance of conserving this vital liquid.

This campaign is among the activities of the Earthcheck program, an international system of Environmental Management and Certification specifically designed for the Tourism Industry, under which the Fraccionamiento Náutico Turístico Nuevo Vallarta has been certified since 2016.

World Water Day will be celebrated on March 22, hence the Riviera Nayarit’s campaign emphasizes simple recommendations for the general population, most notably:

• Turn off taps that are not being used.
• Reduce the time spent in the shower.
• Use recycled water to water plants and water them in the morning or at night.
• Repair leaks and drips.
• Use the minimum amount of detergent when washing clothes.
• Do not use the hose to wash the car; use a bucket and sponge.
 
Drawing contest: ¡Frénale al consumo! (Slow Down Usage!)

As part of this campaign, the CVB has announced the online Children’s Drawing Contest ¡Frénale al consumo! (Slow Down Usage!), which will run from February 8 to March 15. Children and adolescents living in the municipality of Banderas Bay may participate in the following categories: 6 to 9 years old and 10 to 13 years old.

Participants can download rules and a registration form at Riviera Nayarit Agua Cuenta. The registration form must be emailed to rivieranayaritverde@gmail.com, with the event name “¡Frénale al consumo!” in the subject line. Winners will be announced on March 22nd, World Water Day. There will be prizes for first, second, and third place.

The observance of World Water Day was originally recommended in 1992, during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro. The United Nations General Assembly responded to that recommendation by designating March 22, 1993 as the first World Water Day.

The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments are following all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operating at the allowed capacities.
