Together We Can Make the American Legion Post 14 Great Again! American Legion Post 14 | |
November 15, 2021 |
As you may well know by now, the American Legion, Post 14, has lost its home with the closing of Steve's Bar in Col Emiliano Zapata. For some time our Post has been losing membership due to attrition of the membership as well as inactivity on the part of the Post itself.
However, new life is about to be injected into the American Legion in Puerto Vallarta - and we need you to be a part of it. Please read the story below and join us in this most worthy endeavor. Remember, it's your Post. Help us bring it back!
Special Meeting Tuesday, November 16 - 12:00 pm at Murphy's Irish Pub on the Malecón • Calle Morelos 484, Vallarta Centro • 322-113-0373
There's an active group of younger veterans in PV called, The Veterans of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay. This group, and its leadership, are very interested in bringing our local American Legion Post back to prominence. Discussions are underway on a new, full board, one that will combine “new blood” with “experience.” Activities will be planned, and a Woman's Auxilary will be created.
Jesse Cole Rivera, the Founder of The Veterans of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay, recently spoke with The Legionnaire. "If this pandemic has taught us anything, to quote from President Kennedy, it is that "we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal."
"Whether you are a Post-9/11 era veteran like myself, or you served in Vietnam, Korea, or World War II, you and I can no longer afford to ignore each other, nor should we. We can no longer work at cross purposes in competing spheres of political influence and let the differences between our various generations of military service divide us. Indeed, each generation of our nation’s veterans has had its unique challenges, and so may it be for all time."
"Our military, and by consequence our nation’s veterans, are a more diverse crowd than ever. But at the end of the day, we are all still veterans, we have all served our great nation, we’ve all spilled blood, sweat, and tears, and we are all, for better or worse, affected by the policies that our political leaders at the state, local, and federal levels have enacted, or in some cases failed to enact."
"You and I can no longer afford to ignore each other. So let us walk forward, together, and in common purpose."
Please make plans to attend this meeting on Tuesday, November 16.
American Legion Post 14 is looking for a volunteer or two to cook up a special batch of chili so we might continue our long-standing run of competing in the Puerto Vallarta Chili Cook-Off.
This outstanding charity event supports the Jay Sadler Project and its good work in the underserved communities throughout the greater Puerto Vallarta area.
Contact Jim Sullivan at jim@pvchilicookoff.com if you're interested.
Renewing Your Membership Online
It's fast and easy to renew your American Legion membership online. Meanwhile, it's slow and difficult for the local post here in Puerto Vallarta to process your membership when paid here at the post with a check or cash.
So help us eliminate the paperwork and response time by renewing at the American Legion website.
Go to the Renew Membership page, sign in with your membership number and last name, and then follow the payment instructions.
