Located about 30 miles east up the Valle de Banderas, the town of San Juan de Abajo is the prosperous hub of agriculture and ranching in the region. It takes its name from the Saint John also known as John the Baptist, the faithful and beloved disciple of Jesus.

San Juan is venerated by Christians not only as one of the founders of the faith, but also as the patron saint of loyalty, love, friendship and fellowship. The strong connection to this saint and Christianity is evident in this town in its beautiful church, abundance of shrines in the entrance of homes, and the friendship and fellowship embodied by its residents.

Aracely helping with Recovery

This is one of the most successful and anticipated locations for PEACEAnimals spay and neuter clinics thanks to the incredible outpouring of support from the locals. Aracely Munoz and Miguel Angel are always there to help organize and host the clinics, they are also amazing for the meals they provide for the vets and volunteers as well as the publicity and promotion of the clinics. The foundation they provide for the clinics here is the key to the successful turnout.

This week was no exception with the vet team treating record numbers of animals. Thanks also goes out to the wonderful volunteers who turned out to support them; Mischna, Octavio, Gaby, Gustavo, Anabrenda, Margarita, and many others were on hand this week. Many people choose to stick around and help out with all kinds of chores while their pets are being treated. It is also interesting to see so many of the local ranchers who bring in their working dogs to be spayed and neutered. The benefits of the procedure are becoming widely amongst the communities we serve.
