The abandoned puppy sleeping a couple hours after being discovered. |
PuRR Project is a no-kill cat shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with approximately 200 resident felines.
Situated on a ½ acre parcel of land, our adult population roams free within our lush green gardens allowing them to live in a ‘natural’ environment un-caged.
Our kittens reside in our Kitten Nursery — a large structure with a small patio — open air concept. PuRR Project also has an on-site clinic with daily veterinarian services.
Good Meows!
PuRR Project’s mission is all about the cats, but that doesn't mean we don't care about all our furry and feathery and leathery friends!
Our volunteers often help with the rescue and fostering of puppies or dogs who are lost, abandoned or hurt.
Just this week, Shannon Campbell found a tiny puppy left in a shoebox in her doorway and has already found a foster mom to care for it.
This past Spring, one of our volunteers spent countless hours trying to convince an abandoned young male dog in the Marina to trust her...and it finally paid off. "Leo" is no longer a coward with his tail tucked under his legs.
Kitty BINGO at Nacho Daddy
PuRR Project is very happy to announce we've teamed up with Nacho Daddy for the upcoming season to bring you twice-monthly BINGO or Mexican Loteria evenings. Our first event will be on Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and our volunteers are out looking for lots of great prizes for anyone who shouts "MEOW"...of course you have to get a BINGO first! We've lined up several celebrity callers so expect to have a ton of fun.
For those of you who haven't been to Nacho Daddy, it’s a great Old-Town location at 180 Basilio Badillo with a stage, sound system and lots of seating. Special cocktails and appetizers will get the evening off to a good start! So mark your calendars for October 10 & 24, November 7 & 21, and December 5 & 19.

A PuRR-fect Gift Idea!
How many times have you said "I don’t know what to get Grannie Helen (or Uncle Joe or ????)...she already has everything!!"
Consider making a charitable donation in that person's name and give them a gift that will be appreciated and make everyone feel good.
That's exactly what Shelby Brennan and Bryan Frazer of Puerto Vallarta do for all their grand-kids, nieces and nephews each year. They feel it's a valuable lesson for kids who already have SO much; a chance to understand at an early age how it feels to give something back.
So when they asked 9-year old Fin which charity he would like for his 10th birthday on October 4, he immediately said "the kitties!."
It was easy to go to the PuRR website and click on the DONATE button. All the kitties at PuRR wish Fin a very Happy Birthday!!
We also think the new 2013 PuRR Calendar makes a great gift for everybody on your list. Click here for more information.
Not so Good Meows:
It's Summer in the tropics and rainstorms are just a fact of life that we live with.
We had a doozy of a storm early one morning last week and volunteers arrived at the shelter to find the water heater had been knocked off the roof and water pipes were broken, so no running water at the shelter. Not good!
It took 3 days to find a decent used replacement and to get the pipes repaired. Good!
Unfortunately, the pump for the well is electric and the same storm knocked out the power. Not good!
After 4 reports to the electric company and 3 inspection visits, they have yet to repair the transformer outside the property. Jose, his wife and three young children have managed for 9 days without power and without complaining. We are still able to get some water from the storage tank on the roof and as of this writing, we're still hoping they can figure out the problem...soon!
We invite you to add your charity or supporting organizations' news stories and coming events to PVAngels so we can share them with the world. Do it now!
From activities like hiking, swimming, bike riding and yoga, to restaurants offering healthy menus, Vallarta-Nayarit is the ideal place to continue - or start - your healthy lifestyle routine.
