The Ministry of Culture of Jalisco brings a message of peace and appropriation of public spaces to children and adolescents in several municipalities through circus arts, with the support of the project Tomar las Calles: Circo Social, of the Department of Festivals and Artistic Groups.

Five artistic groups are participating in this initiative in 2022, using circus as a didactic tool to work in workshops, talks, presentations and other activities with children and young people from 19 municipalities in the south, southeast, valleys and coast regions.

Josué Coronado, Head of Festivals and Artistic Groups of the Directorate of Cultural Operation and Programming, explained that Circo Social begins with a call to these groups, which are granted an economic resource to carry out their activities in the communities, where the culture of peace and the appropriation of public space is promoted.

These activities are carried out in open spaces that are accessible to everyone and almost always close with products to share with everyone. According to Josué, Circo Social began on January 31 and this weekend will have activities in La Manzanilla de la Paz.

Each artistic group works with sub-themes to land in a specific activity with the public. For example, the group "Circo, maroma y teatro", worked in Magdalena in two workshops of clown, juggling, hula hoop and balance and music (clown, rhythm and percussion). The workshop participants, who usually arrive a few days earlier in the community, broke the ice with a musical caravan through the streets of the town. For two days both workshops took place simultaneously, culminating in a circus and comedy performance.

The next municipalities to be visited are Mazamitla, La Huerta, Tomatlán, Cihuatlán, Ameca, Tala, San Juan de Escobedo and Etzatlán.

For the Secretariat of Culture of Jalisco, working with a focus on peace and on initiatives that give people tools to take over public spaces, inhabit them and make them safe, is a fundamental axis that it promotes from all its directions.
