We have an exciting year to look forward to. Our first meeting is October 18, 2012. It will be at 11:00 am at Coco’s Kitchen.

This will be a banner year as we are sponsoring the first annual Bougainvillea Festival in partnership with Vallarta Lifestyles and Restaurant Week, May 17-24, 2013.

I wanted to wait until our November meeting to formally introduce the topic of the Festival as many of our members won't return until then. However, our October meeting is also very important. Our club is beginning its third full year. Already we have so much to be proud of: planter sponsorship throughout the city with massive planting of bougainvilleas, Amapas and Tababulia trees, a complete replanting of Cardenas Park, plantings at the Mercado and along the Malecon.

Puerto Vallarta is poised to be even more successful economically than we were before as a magnet for tourism. We are proud to include as members many native Puerto Vallartans and our goal is to be more than an ex-pat club.

Many of you have been part of Garden Clubs in other locales. Our first meeting can be an opportunity to HEAR you, our members, tell us how we can be a more successful, dynamic and enjoyable club. Thus, our agenda for October 18 is one of membership discussion on how to make Puerto Vallarta Garden Club the best it can be. I was President of the Windermere Unit of the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle, Washington, and I will share my insights from those years. But I also have much to learn from all of you.

Please respond to this invitation – and I mean YOU – with a YES on saying a few words about your own experiences and recommendations for garden club success. And please RSVP in any case, if you plan to attend.

Coco's Kitchen is located in Old Town Vallarta at Pulpito 122, telephone is (322) 223-0373.

Along with the other officers of PVGC, I look forward to the entire 2012-2013 season, to getting to know you and becoming friends, and to making this season the best ever in our city of choice – Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.

Incidentally, I lost some of my email contacts due to an event with my internet after Spring of 2012. If you know of anyone who wants to be a part of PVGC and who may have joined after that, please send me their email contact. Thanks so much!

Best regards,
