Mexcaltitán: The Magical Town of Nayarit (Places To Visit In México)

If small and special places are your thing, then you must visit the beautiful magical town of Mexcaltitán, which can only be reached aboard a boat and going through a 15-minute walk that will allow you to cross the waters of the Great Lagoon of Mexcaltitan.

During your journey through the lake you will be able to enjoy beautiful landscapes surrounded by vegetation with mangroves and the fauna full of birds of the region that will make your arrival a unique and special moment.

Mexcaltitán has beautiful streets that you can explore on foot and that are full of colorful houses with gloomy roofs, although if you visit on a rainy day, you can take a boat and tour the city through its canals, making it an experience that you will surely never forget.

In the magical town you can visit the The Origin Museum, it is a place where an incredible collection of pieces from various Mesoamerican cultures such as the Mexica culture is exhibited, there you will also find a replica of the Boturini Codex where the origin of the Mexica is narrated; while in another area of ??the museum you will learn about the history of the island.

This museum is located in front of the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paulthe patron saints of the town and who have a party that is celebrated on June 29 where a procession is practiced to bless the waters, this festivity ends in a competition between saints, where the town is divided into two rival teams, each one with his saint and compete in a boat race.
