'Nannies are our Heroes’ – In February, one of our children experienced an appendicitis attack and had an emergency appendectomy. The regional hospitals in Mexico require someone to remain at the bedside of a patient during their stay as there is no one there to provide meals, beverages, help with bathing, bathroom needs, etc.Our nannies did not hesitate to finish their shift at RISE and then go to the bedside of our young girl….this is the family we have built. Please help support these wonderful ladies.
What’s happening with the kids?
LOTS! We are keeping them busy, happy and healthy. Here's a glimpse into their weekly schedule.
Monday - Friday, the 6+ year old childrenare off to school early and come back for an after school snack and wind down. Comida (lunch) is served at 2:00 and after they clean up, the homework sessions begin, rotating the children with teachers and volunteer tutors from 3:00 - 6:00. Physical Education (PE) continues from 4:00 - 6:00 and then another snack is served. Catechism is on Monday nights with a team of volunteers preparing children for their confirmation. The children then have some open time to watch TV andcatch up with each other until it's time to take showers and eat Cena (a lighter version of dinner as their big meal is Comida).
The nursery kids have been blessed to have a great team of English pre-school teachers who come from 11-1:00 for English and Playtime. They are a handful, but much learning and fun is had. Monday, Tuesday and Fridays afternoons we've had volunteers coming for playtime, as well!
Saturday - 9 - 12:00,the 6+ year old children are off to English class at the American English Tree - now 100% scholarship based, thanks to Eddie, the owner. Then it's PE class from 12 - 2:00 follwed by comida!
As you may recall, we have a rewards program for the kids where they earn coins for good behavior all week. Saturday at 2:45 the 'Tiendta' opens up for them to use those hard hearned coins to buydonated toys, special clothes or shoes, activites - time on the computer, on the trampoline, riding bicyles orin the stimulation room.
We've added a hip hop hlp class at 4:30 on Saturday - thanks to Fusion 91, the dance group that won the So, You Think you Can RISE talent contest!
Nursery kids get a little art/crafts and playtime from 11 - 1 on Saturday, too.
Sunday - After a good breakfast, the kids head off to church at 10 and when they return at 11 art class starts with Joann and Al and their new assistants Paola and David. When that's over, Karate class is taught by volunteers Daniel, Ceasar and Omar, where they learn techniques for defense - but also when to use them. The kids have alittle more open time before comida and then yoga by Deanna starts at 3:00.
Once again, the nursery kids get out for play time as well on Sundays from 11:30 -1:30.
Yes, we keep them busy as we believe ina structured enviornment, a child knows what to expect - this creates a sense of security which is very beneficial for our children.
