The Brutally Honest Sustainable Tourism Video (ReThinkingTourism)

The Riviera Nayarit is fully committed to the new era of sustainable tourism with its excellent environmental and ecological practices, and the pursuit of domestic and international certifications that endorse the destination.

Last week, the Nuevo Nayarit Norte beach, along with the Marina Riviera Nayarit, met all of the requirements needed to retain their Blue Flag credentials for another year. The Blue Flag is a recognition by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches and marinas that meet established criteria for quality, safety, and environmental education.

100% is the expected percentage, the Nuevo Nayarit Norte beach received 93.93%, and the Marina Riviera Nayarit 98.65% corresponding to the period 2021–2022. It should be noted that this is the ninth year that the beach has received the certification, receiving it for the first time in 2013, While the marina first received certification in 2015 when it became the first marina to fly the Blue Flag in Mexico.

According to FEE, there are 33 established criteria for quality, safety, education, and environmental information for beaches, and 25 for marinas, grouped into four categories: environmental information, water quality, environmental education and management, and safety and services. For this, it is necessary to have adequate personnel and equipment for visitor safety, signage, and emergency plans, as well as access and inclusive spaces for people with disabilities.

The recertifications came just in time for the current year’s Holy Week and Easter Week holiday period to reassure visitors and locals that the state is committed to caring for the environment.

Nayarit is ready with ‘Operation Vacation 2022’ which was launched on April 9. The expected impact of which is to coordinate tourist orientation programs, assistance, and attention in cases of emergency on highways, airports, bus stations, through information, security, transit, highway, and consumer protection actions to guarantee the integrity and tranquility of the visitors who arrive at the different municipalities of Nayarit.
