S.A.C.R.E.D. Saving Agave (RePlanting Jalisco)
In 2020, SACRED launched a capital campaign to develop RePlanting Jalisco, a cooperative initiative with Mezonte that will create three greenhouses in Jalisco. The purpose of the greenhouses is to preserve four at-risk varietals of native Jaliscan agave varietals and three at-risk tree varietals, as well as help to conserve rapidly disappearing wild lands in the state.
This video illustrates the construction of one of those greenhouses.
The expectation is that the program will produce 6,000 seedlings a year. The seedlings will be shared among the communities, with other families who are committed to maintaining their cultural heritage.
