Their Story
Christ the King Church of Oklahoma City (CKOKC) visited RISE last month for their 2022 youth mission trip that was coupled with a generous donation from their congregation.
What a gift we were given! The Director of Youth Ministry, Antonio Guzman, is no stranger to Mexico as his mother is from Guadalajara and he has visited Puerto Vallarta in the past. On one of his trips to PV, he met Madre Mari who shared that our main mission at RISE was to love these children, as they had no one else to love them.
This captured Antonio's heart and he set out to have his youth mission trip at RISE the following year, 2018. This trip proved to be a great experience for his youth group and RISE. They came back again in 2019 and planned to continue these trips.
We all know that COVID had an impact on everyone, and it was not different for CKOKC. Their mission trips came to a halt until this year. Antonio came back to PV in January of 2022 to see if we could help organize a successful youth mission trip. After several meetings discussing how we could put the kids hard to work in the morning and have fun with the kids in the afternoon - we did it!
We were fortunate that Father Rex, Pastor at CKOKC, joined the groiup on this trip. Padre Luis, RISE President and founder, was able to come and perform a joint mass for all of the kids in our chapel. The mission team was able to polish up the chapel so all coiuld enjoy!
Love was shared, friendships were made and tears were shed as everyone said their goodbyes!
THANK YOU Christ the King Church of OKC for leaving an imprint in our hearts. We can't wait to have you back next year!
Don't forget our Need our Nannies campaign - help us pay our Nannies a fair wage so they can cope with the increased costs that Puertos Vallarta is experiencing. These ladies are critical to our children's well-being!
