The only social club in Puerto Vallarta where both you and your dog are invited to let loose
Every now and then something extraordinary comes to town. Ruffy’s Canine Cantina is just that.
Located at Isla Rio Cuale near River Café, it is an easy location for Old Town locals.
The Cantina is beautiful and inviting offering a full menu and specialty cocktails for the dog parents.
Ruffy’s has two huge play yards, one for small dogs and one for the big ones. It is an off-leash park and they have Ruffery’s on duty to monitor poop pickup by pet humans and make sure the dogs have ample water. The pet owners get to enjoy other dog lovers in the community and have a drink and something to eat while furry friends romp and play. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday 12 to 8 PM.
Ruffy’s encourages memberships for daily, monthly or yearly usage. One day is 60 pesos or $3.00 USD, weekly is 140 pesos or $7.00 USD, monthly 400 pesos or $20 USD. You can go everyday if you like and hang out with your fur baby and socialize.
Trisha Aljoe, one of our board members and her Chihuahua, Bug, are regulars. Here is Trisha’s description. “Bug goes nuts as soon as we get close to the big front doors. She wants in AHORA! As soon as the little gate opens and her leash comes off she runs in and races around like a crazy greyhound. So fast she’s a blur. Then, as soon, as she sees another dog arriving, she races to the gate, dancing with major tail wagging. This is an excellent safe place for dogs to learn and practice their social skills interaction with other dogs and people.
"The staff Rufferees are there to make sure the dogs’ humans are picking up after their pets, monitor the dogs to keep them from getting aggressive and best of all they play with the pet and love on the dogs, just as much or little as each dog wants.
"Nice to sit there next to the river with a good view of the Bay and sip a cold drink or have a bite to eat (and a ready lap if Bug ever feels overwhelmed). Great place to meet and visit with other responsible dog loving humans! People come and go, staying an hour or two or 8. The pups get pretty worn out after a few hours of constant running and playing. An added bonus due to its location is the Isla is 10 degrees cooler than town."
