Celebrating the 17TH Anniversary of the Mayto Sea Turtle Camp Jorge Chávez - Vallarta Lifestyles

Just two hours driving to the south of Puerto Vallarta is Mayto Beach, a place of almost 7 miles of virgin sand where, in addition to resting and enjoying unparalleled views, you can learn about marine life, as it is home to the Sea Turtle Protection Camp, which is responsible for the care of this beautiful specimen.

The camp, directed by the biologist Israel Llamas, aims to spread environmental education and conservation through its reception and stay program, where student groups, social service students and national and foreign volunteers participate in the work of protecting and caring for the local flora and fauna, its main purpose being the preservation of the nesting habitat of the different species of sea turtles that arrive in at Mayto Beach.

Last weekend, the Mayto Turtle Camp (as it is also known) commemorated its 17th anniversary of hard work for the conservation of sea turtles that nest in the region.

In a statement issued through their social networks, they mentioned that they have added different programs focused on caring for the environment and have increased their impact on the protection of nature.”

Examples of this are the Center for Environmental Education (CEAM) with its different reforestation, protection of native bees and plastic recycling subprojects; the Research Project with the Hawksbill Turtle and the Reception of School Groups.

In addition, its summer and winter volunteer programs open the doors so that young people from all over the country, and even from other countries, can join its activities.
