On Thursday July 14th, we took the first big step towards relocating the Kids Club to our new site near the plaza on Langosta 27. Jeanette and James Woods (Florida and Vermont) owned the property, it was the former restaurants Ya-Ya's, Gecko Rojo, Madera and more. It is now owned by Banderas Bay Charities, Inc. and occupied by Amigos de La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, A.C. as the site of the new Kids Club.

John and Abraham along with a generous volunteer Keith Snyder were able to move all of the furniture, books and mountain of other gear and materials to the new site. It was an ambitious undertaking doing it all in one day with just three people, but after 4 full trailer loads, they were able to get it all done.



Courtyard (Jennifer London)

There is a significant amount of repairs to be done: electrical and water in most of the building is not working.

  • 220V cable cut - we don't even know if it's live.
  • Roof leaks, cracked beams, stairs without a guard rail, steps to courtyard that are disintegrating, a field that is full of construction debris - but we took the leap of faith to make it habitable by the start of school in September.

Initial estimates are $8,000 USD to do the initial work to make it habitable. Some of the restaurant equipment has been sold or promised, and the field cleaned in partial trade for equipment (deep fryer and restaurant BBQ/parrilla).

  • 15,000 pesos to Clean the Field of construction debris and tree limbs
  • 25,000 pesos to add gravel and astroturf (cement floor is perhaps a later addition)
  • 58,500 pesos to re-do the roofs and seal
  • 17,900 pesos to rewire electrical and water connections
  • 38,750 pesos to scrape walls, restucco and paint
  • 155,150 pesos or $7,956.41 USD
