Did you know that, of the 9 million or so Americans living outside the US, best estimates are that 75% of them are Democrats or Democratic leaning voters? Meet our secret weapon.

The vast majority of these folks are not politically active. We know this because only about 2% of those expats are members of Democrats Abroad. All 9 million of them could vote.

But... they haven't voted. Fewer than 10% of expats voted in the 2020 election. Way fewer. Imagine what happens if we get that number up to 15% or 20% — Democratic candidates around the country get an extra 700,000 or 1 million votes.

It is estimated that roughly 50% of those expats don't know they can vote from outside the US. Yet every single American citizen aged 18 or older can vote from wherever they live.

Please contact everyone in your orbit that has an overseas connection and tell them to request a ballot for the November 8 election. It's not too late, yet. Time is of the essence. By law, absentee ballots have to be sent to overseas voters in September. That's great, but receiving and (especially) returning ballots can be a real challenge from some countries and it is vital to get registered and get the request in ASAP.

The nonpartisan website VoteFromAbroad.org provides one-stop voter registration and absentee ballot requests for any American voting from overseas. Get that link to your expat friends and friends-of-friends.

The odds are that you know someone overseas, or that your child/parent/neighbor knows an American who lives outside of the country. If you have a student who's doing a semester or year abroad, for example, he/she/they can vote from wherever school is. If Aunt Gertrude just moved to Panama or Puerto Vallarta, make sure she knows she can get a ballot. Tell her she's our secret weapon.
