Old age; a gift or a curse?

Many of us never want to get old since there is a common belief that you have no life left when you grow above 70 years of age and have to wait for your last breath. People fear being alone as they think being a senior citizen, you have to experience the pain of not being surrounded by loved ones.

While we cannot wholly refute these fears, old age also has some positive aspects. Life after 70 is the time when you have a deep understanding of the course of events of life. You have learned all the necessary life lessons at that point, and the wisdom is unmatched. Although senior citizens lack energy, they can still outrun any youngster with their precious experience.

Old age does get scary when your loved ones no longer spend time with you, but that depends from person to person. To escape the loneliness, many senior citizens live in in-home care centers for senior citizens.

Senior Home Care Centers: A Haven for Senior Citizens

These centers are there to provide in-home care services for senior citizens. They nourish them not only physically but also mentally. The in-home care services include supplying food, and medicines, ensuring healthy functioning, and emotional counseling. Here, people form a bond stronger than blood and fulfill it till their last breath.

The senior citizens help each other in every possible way inside these centers. All of them somehow face the same problems so they can feel the pain of another person. Apart from these centers, older adults lend more help than any other age group whenever needed.

Older Adults and Their Willingness to Help Others

Whenever there is a calamity or natural disaster, we see a more significant number of senior citizens coming out for help. Youngsters lend more physical aid, but the senior citizens are no less to match their level. You might be wondering why it is so. Well, there are many logical explanations behind it.

Carefree Period

In today's world, people have completed their professional life by 60 years of age and have taken or are close to their retirement period. They have made arrangements for their retirement life and have their plans set, while a youngster or a middle-aged person is unsure about their future and has to count on every penny to make things work. When it comes to helping, the elderly are now carefree about their future, so they spend an open hand for help whenever there is a need.

Betterment for the Younger Generation

They also believe that they have enjoyed their life to the fullest, and now it's time for the younger generation to do so. The memories of their youth live young in them, and their joy during this time compels them to lend help with generosity whenever anyone needs it.

Empathy

Older adults are generally more empathetic than other age groups. They develop soft corners quickly and take the pain of others as their own. The newspaper, ScienceDaily, published an article about the elderly helping others more generously. It included a study where the researchers gave an equal amount of money to different age groups. They were asked how much money they would want to keep for themselves and what amount they would like to donate to the corona-virus funds. The research was carried out across 67 countries with 46,500 people aged between 18 and 99 in May 2022.

A more significant percentage of older adults are willing to donate a large sum from the total amount than any other age group.

Wisdom

A man or woman in her 60s or 70s has had enough experience of life's high and low tides. The majority have understood the things that matter in life and have lost the lust for money. Their instincts do not stop them from keeping more to themselves than giving others. They know money only increases by providing, so they spend without caring about helping others.

As much as the elderly never miss a chance to help others, we must also not leave them alone in this stage of their life when they are drained of the energy they once used to have. Give them love, attention, and care irrespective of having a blood relation.
