Puerto Vallarta Chili Cook-Off

Wow! We did it. We all did it. The Chili Cook-Off Committee, our outstanding group of volunteers, the 13 hardy chili vendors that stuck with us, the food and beverage servers, and you, the Attendees, all contributed to a most successful 11th Annual Puerto Vallarta Chili Cook-Off.

Here's What Went Down

Another Chili Cook-Off in the books. Despite all the problems everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. A post-event survey of premium ticket holders was overwhelmingly positive with one sentiment running thru most of the comments: it's a great venue. Please stay there for next year. And clean the washrooms! In addition, attendees appreciated all the shaded seating, the entertainment, and, of course, all the great chili.

Attendance was down somewhat compared to last year which was to be expected. Over 100 ticket holders had to be refunded as they were no longer in town. But the 400 who did turn out had a good time and enjoyed a full day of raffles, music, food, and drink. The Silent Auction proved popular and raised a lot of money for our non-profit.

The Vote

Shown in the picture l-r: Pat, cooking for the Jay Sadler Project A.C., Dennis Rike, accepting for Jay Sadler, Tammy Prust and Sean Moore of Nacho Daddy, Raul Barrientos, Cook at Nacho Daddy standing in for Head Chef Javier Garcia, and Chuy, chef at El Sofa Café. (Linda Vasquez)

So who won what? I think our attendees who participate in the popular judging, did an admirable job of not making it a popularity contest. The voting was amazingly close and interestingly the votes were very similar to those of our panel of professional judges. Good job all around.
