The Kids Club Inaugurates New Sports Field Artificial Turf John Whitten - Amigos de La Cruz

Last week at the Kids Club we inaugurated our new sports field with artificial turf. It was especially exciting for the children to be able to enjoy the clean playing field and the other activities we are able to have in this area. It is also great that we no longer have to deal with the dust and dirt as well as it is much safer for the kids to run and play there.

Thanks to all of our supporters and volunteers who made this big project possible. Funds were made possible in memory of Bill Welch, who co-funded the Kids Club building.

Additionally, this week Alejandra began a new geography unit that began with a focus on Mexico. The children are working on political and geographic maps and learning the states and iconic physical features of each such as rivers, mountains, lakes, and coastal regions.

In English classes with Mayra, the children learned vocabulary for the parts of the human body and physical descriptions such as hair and eye color and stature. They also read 2 bilingual books "A Different View" and " Grandpa's Farm."

In addition to continuing with Ukulele practice with Lilly, the children had activities with movement, motion, and coordination and are working on some dances for our upcoming presentation planned for May 25.

In sports, the children are swimming. The proficient students are refining their technique and endurance in the four styles; crawl (freestyle), backstroke, breastroke, and butterfly. Several new students are learning the basics of breath control, treading water, and kicking using the paddleboards.
