Help a Local Community Receive Much Needed Drinking Water Francie Nguyen - Vallarta Food Bank

In the small community of Tebelchía (18 km northeast of Vallarta) there has been no running water for 2+ months. The water supply well has been completely dried because of the drought and absence of water from the Rio Cuale. This community has a population of approximately 700 people and is located in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta. Many of the residents have not been able to shower regularly or do laundry.

Thanks to our water trailer, we were able to deliver clean water to hundreds of families. On our first trip, we dispensed about 3,000 liters and were even able to have the last bit of water in the tank on "Sprinkler mode" to let the kids cool off from the extreme heat. Seeing these innocent faces happy really made the trip worth it.

In Jalisco, a water truck charges about $2,500 pesos ($150 USD) to deliver clean water. It has been months since the town people can afford to buy the water. We decided that we will continue to bring water to this community as long as necessary.

Two days later, we made our second trip and brought more than 10,000 liters of water. The residents were so happy and thankful that they have not been forgotten. Our goal is to purchase large tinacos (water tanks) to help supply the town. Each large water tank costs about 10,000 pesos and holds 2,500 liters of water. Two tanks would be sufficient to reduce the number of trips needed to supply them with a reasonable amount of water to use.

Meanwhile, and because of the heat, we have been giving icy popsicles at the food bank along with cold water. It’s the little things that make their day a bit better. If you would like to donate some cold drinks or popsicles, please let us know.
