Puerto Vallarta is a popular destination for expats from all over the world, and the city has a thriving expat community. There are a number of expat groups and organizations that offer social activities, support, and information. Some of the most popular groups include:
• InterNations PV: Communicate with other expats safely on our network of trust. Our members are verified so that you can rest in the knowledge that you are interacting in a friendly but safe environment.
• Expats in Vallarta: We are providing wide information to people in the process of moving here and then providing many social events once they are here so they can make a lot of new friends easily.
International Friendship Club: Social activities are available to the membership, many of whom also volunteer countless hours endeavoring to make our programs a success.
• Human Connections: Through educational tours, seminars, and internships in Mexico, Human Connections brings together international travelers and local Mexican entrepreneurs to share in cultural and personal exchange.
• Connect With Mexico: Designed for English-speaking expats residing in Mexico – but open to anyone interested in figuring out this wonderful and mysterious country – Connect with Mexico is your go-to destination to finally fathom the sayings and doings of Mexicans.
• American Legion Post 12: We seek to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and those living in Puerto Vallarta and the greater Banderas Bay area by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
• Safe Travels in Mexico Association: STMA is a non-profit association set up by American Expats living in Mexico who saw a tremendous need to facilitate quality US-style medical care in Mexico covered by private insurance from the US and Canada.
What's Puerto Vallarta Like for Expats?
Puerto Vallarta is located on the west coast of Mexico, on the Bay of Banderas. It’s the second biggest city in the state of Jalisco (behind the capital Guadalajara) and is home to over 350,000 people. Puerto Vallarta (shortened to P.V by English speakers) is a very popular tourist spot in Mexico, both for foreign visitors as well as weekend visitors from nearby Guadalajara. In fact, over 50% of the city’s workforce is employed in the tourist industry and is responsible for over half the town’s economic income.
Puerto Vallarta has some of the nicest beaches in the region, but aside from this you can visit dramatic rock formations (the Púlpito and Pilitas) as well as he Church of our Lady of Guadalupe — a stunning building in the city center. Puerto Vallarta has not been dragged into to some of the problems that other parts of Mexico have faced in recent years and remains a safe place to live and visit.
