According to local legend, a small Island off the coast of Mexico might be the birthplace of the Aztecs.
The story goes that the Aztecs traveled from an island called Aztlan to what’s now Mexico City, where they founded their empire.
Some think what was Aztlan is now Mexcaltitan, in the Mexican state Nayarit.
There is no archaeological certainty around the claim but the myth is at the center of a government campaign to stimulate tourism.
Al Jazeera's John Holman reports from Mexcaltitan, Mexico.
