Vallarta-Nayarit is preparing for a unique event that combines the power of sport with the noble cause of marine conservation. On November 18th, 2023, Mexican swimmer Stephanie Montero will complete the Bahía de Banderas Crossing, a 35-kilometer open-water journey to raise awareness and funds for the conservation of the majestic humpback whales.
Departing at sunset from the stunning Marietas Islands (Riviera Nayarit), heading towards the Los Arcos de Mismaloya Marine National Park, the journey will end at dawn at Las Gemelas Beach (Puerto Vallarta). An epic challenge of approximately 12 continuous hours, supported by a team of specialists who will accompany Stephanie throughout her courageous odyssey.
This event is part of “Swimming for Whales 2023”, an initiative led by Stephanie Montero, Karina Almanza, Yoselin Gloria and Maricarmen Sierra. The main purpose is to raise funds with the ambitious goal of reaching 500,000 MXN for the conservation of humpback whales in Mexico.
The funds raised will go to Ecología y Conservación de Ballenas A.C. (ECOBAC), which has been dedicated to conservation, research, protection and outreach projects in the Banderas Bay for over 25 years.
Join this noble cause and help protect the humpback whales of Mexico.
