On Sunday, December 3rd, the people of Vallarta united in one voice with the World Health Organization (WHO), to say that the International Day of Disability is a day for everyone, because the society of Puerto Vallarta knows that disability is part of the human condition and as humans, we all have the right to a dignified life.

In a ceremony held at the Los Arcos open air theater, Dr. Salvador Flores Navarro, head of Municipal Medical Services, accompanied by Josemar Hernandez Niño, director of the Municipal Council on Disability (COMUDIS), said that the Vallarta government works so that people with disabilities have health care, socio-cultural opportunities and to ensure that they are not discriminated against because they are part of our community.

"This municipal government is concerned and concerned that there is support for all of you with the different associations. I also congratulate all those who give their support to people with disabilities."

He explained that COMUDIS and DIF have programs where they provide opportunities with training and support that help them to be an integral part of society, even the DIF has a rehabilitation unit to support people with disabilities.

Before the ceremony, there was a march of people with disabilities organized by COMUDIS, with the participation of related organizations and associations, among them, the Centro de Atención Múltiple (CAM) 21, EDIM Foundation, El Recreo, Pitillal Busca un Amigo Project, Deaf Culture of Puerto Vallarta, Incluyéndonos Association, as well as María Farías García, Supervisor of the State School Zone Nº 6 of Special Education, and afterwards a cultural show was offered to those attending the theater.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is commemorated every December 3. This date was declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1992, with the aim of promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities in all areas of society, in addition to raising awareness about it.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 1.3 billion people worldwide, or 1 in 6, currently have some type of disability. This figure is increasing due to the growth of non-communicable diseases and the longer lifespan of people.
