We are ecstatic to share that A Dog’s New Life has solar panels thanks to the Santa Barbara Sister City Group and a few other generous donors.

As you may know, A Dog’s New Life shelters over 100 dogs living in Bucerias’ countryside. Because the shelter is inland, it is not possible to connect to CFE (city electricity). This is why we have relied on a generator to launch our water pump at the shelter. Needless to say, ADNL has dreamed of having solar panels to make our shelter more functional.

This year we were blessed to connect with the Santa Barbara Sister City Foundation. Santa Barbara California is Puerto Vallarta’s sister city, and their amazing group supports a number of projects in our area on a continuous basis. When our volunteer Pauline Simes, who is from Santa Barbara, presented our shelter to the SB Sister City, they wanted to help.

The Santa Barbara Sister City group held numerous fundraisers in Santa Barbara dedicated to our rescue and ultimately raised our target to be able to purchase an adequate solar panel set to power fans all day to keep the dogs cool, a fridge for vaccines, lights for nighttime, and a washing machine to clean bedding. These panels were officially installed one month ago with Dave Bailey guiding the construction process.

Not only do these panels provide basic needs to the shelter, but our shelter staff feel so grateful and empowered to have support from this community in Santa Barbara. At night, string lights around the shelter give a sense of warmth and coziness, compared to the pitch black, dark nights prior to having these panels.

We are so grateful to be connected with this community despite the thousands of miles that separate us. Our shared love for animals brings us together. Thank you so much to everyone who donated their time and funds to make this amazing advancement at our facilities.
