The Agua Libre Foundation’s primary mission is to provide clean, high-quality drinking water to as many people in the beach towns of Mexico as possible. We want to educate everybody visiting and living here to make sustainable choices.

One great goal is to provide clean water to all students in town and supply all schools with proper water filters and the students with bottles.

What We will Achieve

• 10 Refill Stations in Sayulita, 4 in schools and 6 in the center of town
• Future Refill Stations in more towns along our coastline in the state of Jalisco and Nayarit
• No Straw campaign throughout the region
• Beach clean ups in the whole area
• Ocean and Reef clean ups

A Message From the Founder

My favorite thing to do is surf and be in the ocean. Everyday I surf for several hours in the morning and in the evening. The ocean is my playground and it means a great deal to me. It breaks my heart when I am in sitting in the peaceful ocean waiting for a wave and I see a piece of plastic trash floating by. When I start to think about what marine life will eat it or get stuck in it, it makes me feel emotional and angry.

It is really sad to think that there is so much plastic in the world: humans produce 20,000 plastic water bottles a second! Some countries like Canada have banned single use plastic bottles. This is a step in the right direction. Hopefully the rest of the world will get on board with this. In my home town of Sayulita, I often see people buying a lot of plastic bottles and not disposing of them correctly. The Agua Libre refill stations will help people to be able to refill their own bottles and not buy any more plastic. In all of Mexico there is no clean, filtered tap water. The refill stations would help people who do not have access to clean water as well as cut down plastic usage.

Plastic is drastic! We have to reduce our usage of plastic and hopefully one day not use it all. This is a great goal that we must achieve for all of us. And for the earth. And for the oceans.
